It’s that time of year again when everyone claims to have a long-lost relation from the emerald isle and everything piece of clothing that has a bit of green gets taken out, in an effort to celebrate Ireland’s national holiday St. Patrick’s day.

St Particks day celebrated around the world

This celebration of everything Irish is not just enjoyed by everyone in Ireland (or those who claim to have Irish blood), in fact, its celebrated in more places and by more people than ever before! It might just be another excuse to have a drink or wear that green top that never gets used but year on year more cities and buildings turn green to celebrate the luck of the Irish.

One of the biggest Paddy’s Day trends (apart from parades) is turning famous landmarks green. The Eiffel Tower in the city of light (Paris) for example.the eiffel tower st patricks day

 Luck of the Irish

But what is it that has everyone so excited about this small little country at the edge of Europe, and how come no other countries national day is celebrated worldwide? The irony is that even St. Patrick wasn’t from Ireland. He was a 5th-century Welsh slave that was captured by a group of Irish pirates and used to look after sheep at the side of a mountain!
As this national holiday has taken the world by storm, it can only be put down to one or two things. The popularity of the Irish people and a celebration of how much fun or “craic” they have, or the luck they have had in making this national holiday a worldwide one!
